Video Conference Held to Enhance Cooperation between SDUW and UMB

On June 15th, a video conference was held between Shandong University, Weihai (SDUW) and the University of Milano-Bicocca (UMB) to advance bilateral cooperation. Prof. Gabriella Pasi, Vice-Rector for International Affairs of UMB, Prof. Xia Lidong, Vice President of SDUW, and Prof. Zhang Yunling, Chair Professor of SDU, Dean of Institute of International Studies, attended the meeting. Staff from the International Office and relevant schools of both sides were present at the meeting.

During the meeting, Prof. Xia pointed out that Internationalization was one of the six major development strategies for Shandong University, and SDUW has always attached great importance to initiating international cooperation of various kinds. He added that a memorandum of understanding has been signed recently between SDUW and UMB, and the two universities could start with student and staff exchange and further scale up cooperation by conducting joint research in areas that serve the interests of both sides.

Prof. Zhang said that he looked forward to initiating student exchange programs as well as carrying out research with Italian academics on country and regional studies, which could all contribute to a positive China-EU relationship.

Prof. Gabriella Pasi gave a brief introduction to UMB, and expressed her expectations that the two universities could together attain great achievements through efforts from both sides.

At the meeting, Prof. Kong Haiyan, Director of the International Office, presented the implementation of internationalization strategy and relevant development plans of SDUW. Later, participants conducted an in-depth discussion with regard to the specific areas, forms and contents of future cooperation.

Established in 1998, the University of Milano-Bicocca (UMB) is a young, vibrant public university home to more than 30,000 students. Boasting 14 faculties and 46 research centers, it conducts teaching and research activities in law, sciences, sociology, psychology, economics and statistics, medicine and surgery, and educational sciences. According to the 2020 Censis ranking, UMB was the sixth among universities (with a student population between 20,000 and 40,000) in Italy, and its discipline of Medicine and Surgery ranked fifth.

A memorandum of understanding was signed between SDUW and UMB in April 2021, according to which the two universities would initiate student and staff exchange, etc.
