Orientation Meeting was held at SDU-ANU Joint Science College, Shandong University

On September 1st, the Orientation Meeting of SDU-ANU Joint Science College, Shandong University (hereafter as the Joint Science College) was held at Shandong University, Weihai (SDUW). Prof. Liu Jianya, Vice President of Shandong University (SDU), President of SDUW, and Dean of the Joint Science College; and Prof. Kiaran Kirk, Dean of ANU College of Science, delivered a speech at the meeting respectively. Relevant staff from ANU College of Science and SDUW, together with the 2019 cohort of the Joint Science College and their parents attended the meeting. 

Prof. Liu started his speech with a warm welcome to all the new students, and then introduced the general information about SDU, ANU and the Joint Science College. He expressed his wish that the students could bear in mind the mottos of SDUW and ANU, and strive to be talents with strong social responsibility, broad international vision and innovative spirit. Prof. Brian Schmidt, Vice-Chancellor of ANU, invited students to further their studies at ANU in his greeting video, and Prof. Kirk gave a detailed introduction on the program model of the Joint Science College. 

Prof. Kong Haiyan, Director of International Office, Associate Dean of the Joint Science College, hosted the meeting. She introduced the implementation of the joint education programs between SDUW and partner universities in Australia, the development prospect of the Joint Science College, as well as the outstanding performance SDUW students have delivered in Australia. 

Prof. Peter Bouwknegt, Head of ANU Mathematical Sciences Institute, Prof. Penelope Brothers, Head of Research School of Chemistry, Prof. Allen Rodrigo, Head of Research School of Biology, and Associate Prof. Jong Chow, course director of Research School of Physics, gave talks on their research fields separately and answered questions in that regard.
